TWO Queensland Catholic school students have died and three others have fallen victim to a frightening spate of meningococcal infections in the past few weeks.
Nudgee College Year 8 boarder, Daniel Laherty, died on August 5, and Christopher D’Arcy, a Year 11 student from the Brisbane northside school, died on August 21.
But The Catholic Leader has learned that students from three other Catholic schools have also contracted the disease.
Last week St Rita’s College at Clayfield, St Martin’s School at Carina and Shalom College in Bundaberg each confirmed that a student from their school had contracted the disease.
Nudgee College’s 1800 students underwent precautionary immunisation following their school’s first death.
But the three students suffering the infection at the other Catholic schools are all reported to be recovering from the disease.
