Jubilee All Stitched Up

STUDENTS at Brigidine College, Indooroopilly have sewn their hearts, not on their sleeves, but on a massive Jubilee quilt that is hanging in their gymnasium.

Since the beginning of the year, each of the 500 students and staff members has decorated their own square of cloth, to make up the quilt which stands about six metres high and just under four metres wide.

The six Jubilee themes of fallowness, forgiveness, freedom, justice, jubilation and journey were each taken up by a different year level, with college staff completing the journey element.

The tapestry, full of images, colour and meaningful symbols is bound by a rich border of Brigidine’s identifiable tartan.

Like the Jubilee staffs that have recorded the hopes, dreams and initiatives of parish communities, this Jubilee quilt is a powerful reminder to the college community of all they have achieved this year.

The quilt was the brainchild of Brigidine’s assistant principal for religious education, Karen Mulcahy.
