JASMINE Manning has a great passion for basketball, shooting hoops whenever she gets a chance.
Her hunger has paid off, with the Year 10 student at St Andrew’s Catholic College, Redlynch Valley, picked to represent the state.
“I’ve been selected to play for the women’s national league wheelchair basketball team, the Queensland Comets,” Jasmine said.
She said she was excited to be named in the side and said, “it’s what we all work for”.
“It’s a stepping stone to the next level,” she said.
With goals for world championships and Paralympics, she’s hopeful she’ll get there based on her arduous training schedule.
She practises throughout the week – “pretty much every day”, as she said – switching between shooting, ball skills, gym sessions and recovery.
It’s not just basketball she loved, but tennis too, she said.
Jasmine said it was more a sport she played for fun rather than for competition.
