A VIETNAMESE priest who has found a new home among the Aboriginal people of a community near Alice Springs in central Australia is one of the nation’s newest citizens.
Divine Word Missionary Father Peter Tam Tran was one of about 9300 people to become Australian citizens at ceremonies throughout the land on Australia Day, January 26.
Fr Tran, who fled Vietnam as an 18 year-old, is now, 30 years on, working and living in the Aboriginal community of Santa Teresa, 80 km from Alice Springs.
Friends from the community were with him at the citizenship ceremony at the Telegraph Station in Alice Springs.
