PERCY Price’s life has been dedicated to helping others … and he is still doing that at the age of 90.
The Brisbane man, a member of the St Vincent de Paul Society for 50 years and a member of the Little King’s Movement for the disabled for 40 years, was honoured recently for service to the community.
Mr Price’s dedication and hard work, which has helped others less fortunate, was rewarded on September 15 when he was presented with his Order of Australia Medal in the General Division (OAM) after being named in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List in June.
His two daughters and two granddaughters accompanied him to the medal presentation at Government House in Brisbane, but he felt embarrassed about the attention.
“I think there are thousands of people doing what I do and all of them should get a medal. I keep on asking – why me God?” he said.
Last year, Mr Price visited the homes of at least 150 families in need as a member of the society’s St Brigid’s Conference in Red Hill, and he isn’t planning on slowing down.
“As long as I can walk and as long as I can talk I’ll keep on with the St Vincent de Paul Society,” Mr Price said.
