ARCHBISHOP John Bathersby of Brisbane has received an honorary doctorate from the University of Queensland for his commitment to the Church, the community and the university.

Archbishop Bathersby was presented with a Doctor of Letters from University of Queensland Chancellor, Sir Lew Edwards, at a graduation ceremony at the university last Monday.

Archbishop Bathersby joined Queensland Governor Quentin Bryce and six others to receive honorary doctorates.

The awards are presented based on factors including community service, career distinction and contribution to the university.

Archbishop Bathersby said he accepted the honour with a real sense of pride but an equal sense of humility.
