BRISBANE’S Hispano-American community turned out in force to celebrate the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe on December 10 at Our Lady of Fatima Church, Acacia Ridge.
It was the first celebration since Archbishop John Bathersby officially named Our Lady of Guadalupe as patron saint of the Hispano-American community living in Brisbane earlier this year.
From May 14, Our Lady of Guadalupe became the official saint of all Spanish-speaking Catholics in the archdiocese.
Hispano-American chaplain Fr Hector Zuniga said the patron saint celebration was one of the most revered conducted by the Hispano-American Catholic Chaplaincy during the year.
After a celebration Mass, a festival of music, song and dance from countries such as Bolivia, Guatemala, El Salvador, Ecuador and Mexico was performed, showcasing the diversity of Latin America.
