Lockdown: Residents of Greater Brisbane have been sent into a three day lockdown.

GREATER Brisbane residents will go into a three-day lockdown from 6pm tonight until 6pm Monday night.

The lockdown applies to people living in Brisbane, Logan, Ipswich, Moreton and Redlands.

Masks are mandatory for those who will be going outside in those areas.

People in lockdown areas will be allowed two visitors at their homes.

Catholics will be unable to attend Masses across the weekend.

The measure has been imposed after a quarantine cleaner at a Brisbane hotel was exposed to the UK variant of COVID-19.

Health officials say she had been infectious for five days before her positive case was recorded.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said it was a harsh but necessary decision.

“Think of it as a long weekend at home, we need to do this,” she said.

“If we do not do this now it could end up being a 30-day lock down.”
