WEDDING day memories were revisited as almost 50 couples celebrated half centuries of marriage at a Mass in St Stephen’s Cathedral, Brisbane on October 15.
The Mass, celebrated by Auxiliary Bishop Joseph Oudeman, recognised couples who are marking their golden wedding anniversaries this year.
The couples gathered with family and friends to thank God for the good times and the bad.
For Kenmore couple Kevin and Marie Partridge, the day had special significance, as it was also the day of their 50th wedding anniversary.
The Partridges were married in Sacred Heart Cathedral, Townsville. Mr Partridge said he did not know what was the key to marriage longevity.
“I can’t put it down to anything in particular,” he said.
“The years have just flown by.”
Anne and Bruce Vandermeer of Runcorn were another couple who took part in the golden wedding Mass.
Mr Vandermeer described marriage as “hard work”, with his wife having to look after their five children while he put in long hours in the building industry.
John and Berneice Feltoe of Everton Park were also among the couples who celebrated their 50-year achievement at the Mass.
Dr Feltoe said the key to a happy marriage was “mutual interest”.
