GAME design is a new information technology elective for Year 9 students at St Mary’s Catholic College, Casino.

School principal Aaron Beach said the new course, Information Technology – Game Design, was based on a NSW Board of Studies syllabus with the school’s Leader of Curriculum focusing it games and programming developing.

It would also benefit students at the College and give them skills for a successful career path in gaming.

“The aim is to inspire those students who have an interest in computer technology to take the next step and become the developers of the future,” said Mr Beach.

Mr Beach said the new course would be unique to St Mary’s College.

The course will cover Multimedia and Game Development, Web Design for game promotion, Digital media for Game Elements and Game Logic and Coding.

Students will learn the skills covering game and smart phone application development and robotic programming.

The computer gaming and app development industries have increased rapidly in the current job market, and have proven to be secure career paths for many young people.

The industry has a strong focus on youthfulness, creativity, and generates potentially high salaries.
