THE National Council of Priests (NCP) has issued a discussion paper on future models of priesthood and other pastoral issues surrounding the Eucharist in Australia today.
The paper asks whether individuals would encourage their children or grandchildren to become priests.
It also questions the possibility of married priests and filling the priestly vocational void by reinstating in ministry priests who have married with the Church’s dispensation and who are willing to resume ministry.
These are just some of the issues raised in the discussion paper.
NCP chairman, Fr Hal Ranger from Warwick in southern Queensland, said the discussion paper follows its ‘Reflections on the Lineamenta’, produced in December.
He said it was intended to be a discussion paper and to get people talking with responses collated and sent to Rome for the Synod of Bishops in October.
