THE kindness of a former student of Loreto College, Coorparoo, has left the Catholic high school “a generous multi-year gift” to support the school’s development plans.
Ann Staley (nee Toakley) began her education at Loreto at age 7, becoming Head of School in 1946.
She was known to call Loreto College “a second home”.

A charity in her name, the Ann Helene Toakley Charitable Endowment, has committed $500,000 over five years to help fund the school’s multi-million-dollar master plan.
The master plan includes a performing arts theatre, the expansion of the home economics, hospitality and textiles department, and an upgrade of the undercroft and tuckshop.
Work on Stage One of the development plans began in November.
The upgrade will be an important part of the school’s expansion plan and will serve the college’s increased student population in 2015.
Loreto College principal Cheryl Hamilton said the gift would give thousands of current and future Loreto students “the opportunity to be educated within a well built and well maintained learning environment”.
“This grant is a testament to Mrs Toakley’s leadership, faith and generosity,” Mrs Hamilton said.
“We humbly recognise this commitment and offer our deep appreciation.”
Loreto College also introduced The Ann Toakley Bequest Society in honour of her gift to the school.
