QUEENSLAND’S “Flying Nun” will hang up her wings at the end of this month.
An era which began in Longreach in 1982 will close when Presentation Sister Anne Marie Jensen leaves the aerial ministry, which serves the vast west of Rockhampton and Toowoomba dioceses.
The service began with Rockhampton diocesan priest pilots, helped by the Missionary Sisters of Service.
Sr Anne Marie took over in 1989, but believes there have been so many changes since then that it is time for a new form of ministry.
She has recommended that someone travel by road to the far west of Rockhampton diocese two or three times a year, providing pastoral support and resources to people in the region who are carrying out local ministries.
