Bookend event: The Year 12 students from St Ursula’s College, Yeppoon, at their senior formal.

ST Ursula’s College, Yeppoon, celebrated its opening Mass in February at Sacred Heart Church, Lammermoor.

At the Mass, attended by students, staff and parents, Year 7 Student Talika Warcon read the Welcome to Country prior to the procession of college captains and celebrant Fr Noel Milner.

Perfect my Steps, the English translation of the college motto, Perfice gressus meos, which is the theme of the 2017 school year for the college, was emphasised in the blessing given by Fr Milner as he inducted the student leaders into their new roles.

“May the spirit of the college motto be in your footsteps, and may the values of your Presentation heritage be in your minds,” Fr Milner said.

College captains, senior students and student representative council members were presented with badges as they were formally commissioned.

The opening Mass was held on the same day as another rite of passage for the Year 12 students, the senior formal.

Principal Catherine Dunbar said the college celebrated the milestones of the senior students both at the beginning and end of the school year.

“The opening Mass and senior formal at the beginning of the school year complements the graduation ceremony, Valedictory Mass, and guard of honour held at the conclusion of their studies in November,” she said.
