BEENLEIGH’S Catholic community thanked their beloved patron, Ireland’s St Patrick, for watching over it for 60 years with the biggest feast day party the town has seen.
Parishioners, past priests, members of the school community and archdiocesan clergy gathered at St Patrick’s Catholic Church in Beenleigh on March 17, the Irish saint’s feast day, to celebrate 60 years since the parish began.
Brisbane Archbishop Mark Coleridge and vicar general Monsignor Peter Meneely concelebrated the Mass with parish priest Missionary Congregation of the Blessed Sacrament Fr Joseph Kanatt and other priests from the Logan deanery and the archdiocese.
Fr Kanatt said it was an “enriching” celebration that cherished the memories of all who have been involved in the parish.
“We all came together, former priests and current parishioners, to share our faith,” he said.
The multicultural community continued the celebrations by feasting on a smorgasbord of home-cooked meals in the St Joseph’s Tobruk Memorial School hall.
