A SERIES of seminars will start in Brisbane soon, supporting what many believe to be one of society’s most endangered species – the family.

Director of the Queensland Bioethics Centre and of the John Paul II Centre for Family and Life Ray Campbell said the seminars, Building Families, would start at St Kieran’s parish in Brighton on May 23.

Mr Campbell said the initiative was directed at families throughout Brisbane archdiocese.

“We frequently hear the expression that the family is the basic unit of society,” he said.

“However, despite the obvious importance of family we very rarely celebrate and focus upon the family as such.

“We celebrate marriage, we celebrate motherhood and fatherhood … we celebrate and honour grandparents.

“But we rarely stop and think about and celebrate family itself.

“Perhaps we tend to take it for granted.”

Presenters include Mr Campbell, Gwen and Russell Winterscheidt (Passionist Family Groups), Tess Rowley (Centacare), and Carole Danby, Liz Anderson and Angela McMullin (Brisbane archdiocese’s Youth and Children’s Ministry Team).

Five other seminars will follow the initial one at Brighton.

They will be held at: Sacred Heart, Booval, on May 30; St John Vianney’s, Manly, June 20; St Maximilian Kolbe, Marsden, September 26; St Joseph’s, Pialba/Hervey Bay, October 10; and Sacred Heart, Clear Island Waters, October 31.

Those interested in attending can register through the JPII Family and Life Centre on (07) 3366 2188 or email familycentre@bne.catholic.net.au
