ALL Saints’ Parish at Albany Creek will have an extra reason to celebrate today (Sunday) when it will receive an Australia Day award from Pine Rivers Shire Council.
The annual parish and school fair, known as Albany Fair, has been named the shire’s Community Event of the Year.
Parish secretary, Jennie O’Neill, who has been convener of the fair for the past three years, will receive the award on behalf of the organising committee at a ceremony at the Strathpine Community Centre.
Parish priest, Fr Ron Mollison, said it was a great achievement for a team of people who had worked very hard.
Fr Mollison said the fair, which was the parish’s major fundraiser for the year, was a great collaborative effort involving the parish and school communities.
‘It’s an amazing accomplishment and a great spirit prevails,’ he said.
Ms O’Neill has handed over the reins this year to Gavin Roneberg, who is enthusiastic about carrying on the success.
