DRESSED in his akubra hat, shirt and dog collar, Fr Paul Rheinberger is easily recognisable as he makes his way around Brisbane’s Royal Queensland Show.
Although not an official judge, Fr Rheinberger can be found enjoying the showjumping tournament, offering his time-keeping skills, or in the cattle sheds following the dairy and beef competitions, an interest that stemmed from holidays spent on a dairy farm in Bega, NSW as a young boy.
The retired priest from Canberra and Goulburn archdiocese, who is staying at Herston presbytery, attended the Brisbane Show every day of its August run.
Fr Rheinberger said he enjoyed mixing with the people and liked nothing better than to watch young cattle judges getting it right in the parade ring or the judging competitions.
He has been following the Queensland Show circuit up and down the coast, from Cairns to Brisbane, for the past 14 years.
