STILL bright and bubbly at 100, Eileen Nairn is always ready for a laugh with her friends, and there was plenty of that on June 15 when Gordon Park parish in Brisbane threw her a party.
Mrs Nairn, who turned 100 on June 19, had a ball when her parish of 50 years paid tribute to her.
She said it was one of the best days she had ever had, catching up with old friends.
She was the centre of attention at the parish’s Sunday morning Mass and afterwards at a morning tea organised by parishioners.
Mrs Nairn, born in Gympie on June 19, 1903, has had her fair share of heartaches but friends say she has maintained a generous spirit.
She was widowed at 25 with the death of her first husband, Roy Colwell, and was left to raise her only child, Gwen.
She was in her 40s when she married Les Nairn, who died in 1956.
Throughout her life, Mrs Nairn has been active in the Church and community groups.
She was a foundation member of the Endeavour Foundation, which supports people with disabilities.
Mrs Nairn has three grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
She received messages from Pope John Paul II, Queen Elizabeth II, Prime Minister John Howard and others.
