FEMALE staff at St William’s School, Grovely, had an early start to International Women’s Day on March 8 when they were acknowledged and thanked “for all the amazing work they do at St William’s” at a breakfast.
The breakfast, instigated by assistant principal for administration Marissa Clark and assistant principal for religious education Kim Fehervary, did not take long to become infectious amongst staff.
Splashes of purple, the colour for International Women’s Day, were seen on table settings, thank-you gifts, tablecloths, candles, and on the women who supported this exciting initiative.
Guests listened to the inspirational words of Theresa Sheen who has been teaching and working in Brisbane Catholic Education for the past 25 years and during this time has had the opportunity to be a volunteer in poorer countries like Timor Leste and in South America.
She discussed her life journey and how five travel tips had become her song for her travels through life.
Teacher Marie-Louise Stolberg said as staff listened to Theresa’s story they too were able to relate these worthwhile and valuable tips to their own journey through life.
“(This is) a journey that is constantly changing and requiring women to take on new challenges and not be afraid to follow as well as lead,” she said.
“During these experiences she thought she was there to help those less fortunate than herself but has since realised she was learning more from the experience than she was giving.”
Ms Stolberg said the breakfast event was a fitting way to celebrate St William’s 2014 theme: “Come Live Life to the Full”.
