Surprise gift for a loved teacher

PARENTS and students from Year 1I at St Martin’s School, Carina, say their teacher is picture perfect.

That’s why they made a special effort to thank Jacinta Igoe on World Teachers’ Day last week, by presenting her with a painting of herself.

Class mum and artist of “With Joy I Go”, Angela Grzegrzolka, said words did not do Ms Igoe justice, which was why they decided on a painting.

“She is the most amazing teacher I have ever come across,” Angela said.

“I’ve known a lot of teachers and a lot of excellent teachers but this one takes the cake and I’m so lucky to have my daughter in her class.”

Angela taught for 11 years in Catholic Education and said what made Ms Igoe unique was her consistently positive attitude.

“She is always beautiful and joyful. That’s the thing we are most blown away by, and so that’s what I tried to capture in the painting.

“She doesn’t just teach these children, for Jacinta everything is an amazing event. She’ll often come dressed as a character and takes the kids on some wonderful journey.”

Another class mum Ann-Maree David echoed these sentiments.

Ann-Maree said Ms Igoe knew the strengths and weaknesses of every student and helped them to do their best.

“The proof is in the pudding – the students are all doing incredibly well,” she said.

Ms Igoe has been teaching for 21 years in Catholic Education, but this was only her second year at St Martin’s.

She was overwhelmed to receive the surprise gift.

“This is the best World Teachers’ Day I’ve had,” she said.

With three children of her own all at different schools, Ms Igoe revealed her secret to success – “I just love my job”.
