STUDENTS from Mt Maria College, Enoggera, donned costumes as they put their own spin on some fairytale favorites to entertain about 200 primary students from neighboring Our Lady of the Assumption School.
As part of the Year 9 drama program, the Mt Maria students fractured, modernised or combined fairytales as they took on roles as script writers, set and costume designers, promotion managers and set and prop constructors at Mt Maria’s activities centre.
The production included such favorites as Little Red Riding Hood, Snow White and Cinderella with students dressed as beautiful princesses, brave princes, ugly witches, ferocious wolves and little piggies.
Mt Maria drama teacher Kath Bryant said the secondary students worked extremely hard to prepare the show “Fairytale Remix” for a target audience of Year 1-5.
She said they were thrilled at the response from the young audience.
The whole school has got behind the production with art teacher Kristen Connors painting sets with the students and parents after school and the Parents and Friends Association buying new microphones for the performance.
Year 1 student Maddi Connors, who liked the dancing in the production, said Cinderella was her favourite character.
William Bryant, also from Year 1, said the students at Mt Maria were very talented and his two favourite characters were the wolf and the grandma.
Ms Bryant said it was a fantastic experience for the two schools to interact and work together.
“Fairytale Remix was a huge success and students from Our Lady of the Assumption are already asking when the next show is on,” Ms Bryant said.
“Mt Maria College will continue to develop the relationship with Our Lady of the Assumption in the years to come and this performance has set a tradition that students are excited about from both schools,” she said.
