BRIGIDINE College students vowed to keep kids safe on the streets and the Internet when they gave Bruce and Denise Morcombe more than $1100 last week.

The Indooroopilly college held a Day for Daniel fundraising event on February 27 and raised $1192 for the Daniel Morcombe Foundation through bake sales, face painting and manicures.

Year 12 student leaders invited Mr and Mrs Morcombe to share their child safety message, developed as one of the resources of the Daniel Morcomobe Foundation.

Brigidine College school captain Olivia Fidler said the Morcombes were “an inspiration” and hearing their message on child safety had made her more aware of the possible dangers young teenagers could face.

“Daniel was such a young age like most of our girls here,” Olivia said.

“So we’re all trying to be very aware of the situations, and having them out here and talking to us is great.

“It just gets more girls so aware of obvious problems that we have.”

The Sunshine Coast parents have made it their duty to keep children safe in the 12 years after the abduction and murder of their son Daniel in December 2003.

Daniel had finished Year 9 at Siena Catholic College, Sippy Downs, weeks before he was murdered.

Mr Morcombe said Brigidine College’s donation was “very generous” and would help the foundation to bring more positive outcomes to “damaged souls”.
