THE joyful smiles of students from St Mary of the Cross School, Windsor, “captivated” seniors in the surrounding community during a gala morning tea held last month for Seniors’ Week.
The primary school community served 16 Windsor Aged Care residents and six Sisters of St Joseph, the founders of the school, and seniors from the community.
The event was organised with support from a government grant for Seniors Week.
Led by a group of St Mary of the Cross student volunteers, Mini Vinnies, the gala morning tea included the students’ homemade cakes and biscuits made.
Guests received a Seniors’ Week bookmark and an image of St Mary of the Cross.
Years 4-7 students entertained their guests with songs from the 1930s, 40s and 50s and then brought out the school’s four chickens to pass around.
Pastoral worker Josephite Sister Anne Cannon said guests “excitedly” joined in on all the entertainment.
Sr Cannon said the school community was “most grateful” for the grant and the opportunity to serve the community’s elderly.
