ADVOCACY and its importance was the key topic when more than 140 students from 15 schools across Queensland’s Greater South East recently came together for the annual Social Justice Day.
St Vincent de Paul Society Queensland worked in collaboration with Caritas Australia, Catholic Mission, Vocations Office, and Project Hatch to deliver a series of sessions on the topic at Clairvaux MacKillop College, Upper Mt Gravatt, on February 27.
Clairvaux MacKillop College Year 12 student Laetitia Curry said she had come away inspired to be more involved as an advocate for society’s less fortunate.
“I’m here today because of the missionary support we provide to the St Vincent de Paul Society and I like helping people in need,” she said.
The society’s youth manager Cassandra Bull said students had embraced the related theme of one love, one world with enthusiasm.
“They tackled the different group activities and discussions with positivity and support for each other,” she said.
“It was fantastic to see the students reflect and hear discussions about how they could use what they learned in their schools.
“It was also a great opportunity for students to meet like-minded peers from other areas to find out what they are doing.”
