A GROUP of Year 7 students from Stella Maris School, Maroochydore, are living their Catholic mission in their own community.
The school’s social justice committee took on the challenge of raising money for a barbecue for the local St Vincent de Paul’s Society’s social housing facility.
The society asked for the students help with the barbecue for the residents at Rendu Lodge to assist in the development of a community atmosphere in the facility.
School principal Glenda Morgan said the social justice committee organised and held sausage sizzles for the rest of the school to raise the $585 needed.
She said several students and their teacher attended the official opening of Rendu Lodge on October 15 and were congratulated on their effort and generosity.
Ms Morgan said the social justice committee was just one of 10 leadership committees Year 7 students were appointed to each semester.
“Other committees include environment, liturgy, service, library, student mediation, virtues, structured play, communication and assembly,” Ms Morgan said.
“We firmly believe in giving all children leadership responsibility and we are very proud of them.
“All committees are doing a great job.”
