A NEW art piece is helping staff at Marymount Primary School, Burleigh Waters, remember they are the heartbeat of the school.
Titled STaffART, the art piece, based loosely on Buddhist prayer flags, features colourful pieces of fabric hung together to form a single picture, symbolising one team working together to do great things.
Marymount Primary School acting assistant principal for religious education Diane Anderson said the colours were carefully chosen to reflect the school’s logo.
She said the support structure was brown on the left side – the cross in the school logo – while the heart in the centre symbolised that staff were the heartbeat of the school, and featured fish and leaves were scattered throughout the individual pieces.
Mrs Anderson said at the beginning of the year staff came together for some professional development days and the idea for the art project was proposed.
She said staff members, including administration, teachers, school officers, grounds persons and three priests were invited to take a piece of fabric and place a message on it.
Staff members said they were impressed with the final piece.
“It was an acknowledgement of being an essential part of the community; it gave a sense of unity and a chance to express our creativity,” they said.
“Sometimes we cannot see the role we play as an individual but, at the end of the day, when you see the big picture, it is empowering and inspiring.
“We are all part of a bigger picture, no one piece is more important than the other.
“If one piece is missing then the ‘picture’ is not complete.
“Together we can do great things.”
Mrs Anderson said the art piece would remain in place until the elements took their toll.
