ST Laurence’s College in South Brisbane turns 100 this year, and the school community has big plans to remember those who have contributed to the school’s milestone year.

Principal Ian McDonald invited the community to celebrate and thank “those that have carried on the college values and traditions before us”.

“The story of Lauries over the last 100 years has been shaped by numerous individuals who share the values of courage and commitment,” Mr McDonald said.

“We celebrate each and every one this year.”

When St Laurence’s College, South Brisbane first opened in 1915, five Christian Brothers were tasked with providing Catholic education for 270 young boys.

Now 100 years later, more than 1800 students and 200 staff fill the school grounds.

Reflecting on the theme Celebrating the Past, Living the Present, and Building the Future, the community will also host numerous sporting events, cocktail functions, concerts, blessings, a gala dinner and a reunion weekend for past students.

The Edmund Rice all-boys school will also celebrate an anniversary Mass on February 13.

“By hosting these events we will take our congregation on a journey to see the significant progress and instill a sense of pride and belonging to what we have created today,” Mr McDonald said.

Mr McDonald will also launch the much-anticipated history book It’s Good for Us to Be Here – the Story of St Laurence’s College, which includes some historical content on the South Brisbane area.
