SAINT John Fisher College student Jayden Molo said it felt “very surreal” when she found out she made the Australian under-17 netball squad.
Now, Jayden was set to attend the Australian Institute of Sport over the winter holidays to train with the Australian team.
“With only a few weeks left until the camp, I am very excited and grateful for this opportunity and experience and expect to learn and expand my knowledge of netball,” she said.
Jayden was also recently named vice captain for the under-17 Queensland Netball team, after winning a bronze medal at the Hobert National Championships last month.
“The thing I like most about netball is meeting new people and creating new friendships with all my teammates and being able to take risks on court while playing,” she said.
“My ultimate netball goal is to one day play in the Suncorp Super Netball Competition and hopefully play in and represent the Australian Diamonds.”
Principal Catherine Galvin said St John Fisher College has a proud tradition of supporting students in their sporting endeavours.
“Set in 15 hectares of greenspace, which include an athletics oval, cricket pitch and AFL field, our college grounds provide the perfect setting for students to play sport,” she said.
“At St John Fisher our sporting success is just another example of how we encourage our students to gain a holistic education, to thrive in their interests, and in doing so, achieve excellence.”
Ms Galvin said Jayden is a “true sportswoman”, and her commitment and drive for netball is admirable.
“We always look forward to seeing her represent our college in netball, showcasing her skills and leadership on the court at every level,” she said.
