THE junior “dance troupe” at St Eugene College, Burpengary, won first prize at the South East Queensland Performing Arts Festival in Caboolture on October 17.
Its success is credited to Year 11 students Sarah Spiering, Monique Bramley and Jasmine Pratt, who dedicated many hours to coach and mentor the award-winning junior team.
Junior dance troupe captain Kaitlyn Spiteri said the team worked well together and she looked forward to leading the team again. The senior dance troupe won a Highly Commended.
Both teams scored 80 points out of a possible 100.
Acting head of creative arts Kathy Stewart said the school community always “passionately support excellence in dance and in the arts”.
“The students have done themselves and all of us extremely proud,” Ms Stewart said.
“These talented young dancers are a shining example of the excellence in the arts that our school exudes. Parents of children in these dance troupes show great passion, positivity, helpfulness and generosity in supporting the students.”
