QUEENSLAND Catholic Education Commission executive director, Mike Byrne, says Catholic Education Week is a special opportunity for the Catholic education community to celebrate its distinctive mission and to showcase the great work being done.
“I would encourage the Catholic education community throughout the state to embrace Catholic Education Week (July 22 -28) as a time to celebrate and spread the ‘good news’ about our special ethos,” he said.
Mr Byrne said the theme for this year’s celebrations, “Communities to believe in” had been well chosen as a focus for celebrations.
“This theme highlights that Catholic schools are first and foremost faith communities but also communicates a strong message that Catholic schools can be relied on to provide the very best educational opportunities for Queensland children.
“I would take this opportunity to wish all 286 Catholic schools and other Catholic Education agencies best wishes for Catholic Education Week 2007,” he said.
Mr Byrne also thanked the QCEC subcommittee with representatives from Catholic school employing authorities around the state that has worked behind the scenes to facilitate a range of activities and events and develop resources to support school-based activities.
The QCEC Catholic Education Week subcommittee 2007 is:
Stephen Byrne (Edmund Rice Education), Trinity Lewis (Rockhampton DCEO), Julie Plath (Townsville CEO), Pauleen Tibble (Toowoomba CEO), Andrea Gregory (Cairns CEO), Keith Druery (Religious Institute Schools), Margaret Knox and Bernadette Kreutzer (Brisbane Catholic Education), Carmel Nash (Parents and Friends Federation), Michelle Endicott (Australian Catholic University), Anna Ehler, Lisa Birch, Mike Wilkinson and Gerard Delaney (QCEC).
