Socking it to poverty

Fundraiser: Staff and students at Our Lady Help of Christians wore socks of all shapes, sizes and colours to support Catholic Mission.

THROUGHOUT the month of October students at Our Lady Help of Christians, Hendra, have been supporting Catholic Mission.

Assistant principal for religious education Sue Williams said each class was given a sock in which to collect coins for Socktober.

She said the fundraising initiative concluded on the first day of November when the whole school was encouraged to decorate their socks in support of this cause.

Ms Williams said the whole school gathered for a liturgy and each class brought their sock to the Prayer Space.

“We listened as our student leaders guided us in prayer,”Ms Williams  said.

“Following prayers a representative from each class came out and poured the coins from their socks into a larger sock.  This sock was filled not only with coins, but also with the prayers and thoughts of our school community.”

Ms Williams said it was a great effort by all the students, and the money they collected would be sent to Catholic Mission to support its project in Mongolia.
