NINE Year 4 students at Holy Cross Primary School, Wooloowin, have formed their own charity group – “The Saints Club” – to raise money for the St Vincent de Paul Society.
And their first fundraising attempt – washing cars and selling freshly squeezed orange juice to drivers – was a huge success.
Despite a limited supply of tank water, they collected $54.80 on the day, exceeding their original target of $50.
To celebrate their efforts they had a “little girls party” in the afternoon, which involved swimming and a late lunch.
One club member Freya van der Wal said she felt “proud”.
“We all felt really good because we weren’t doing it to earn money for ourselves, we did it to raise money for the needy,” she said.
“It also made our friendships stronger.”
Holly Slater, who initiated the club last term, said they planned to do more charity work in the future.
“We just think it is nice to be able to help the poor and spend time with friends while doing it,” she said.
“Hopefully if we get a little bit of rain we can organise another carwash soon.”
