PARENTS in Brisbane archdiocese are to be encouraged to participate more in Catholic schools.
The Brisbane Catholic Education Council launched a Parents Partnership and Participation Policy on September 7 at the O’Shea Centre in Wilston.
The policy will recognise a school’s responsibility to support parents in partnership and to engage their participation in the life of the school community.
Brisbane Archbishop John Bathersby, in a foreword to the policy, said partnerships between parents and schools were vital to the future of Catholic schools.
“Both parties are responsible for the maintenance and development of these partnerships.
“Mutual respect can be established through dialogue relating to students’ families, the holistic development of the students and appropriate resourcing of the school.”
During the launch, Brisbane Catholic Education executive director David Hutton said the policy was an important evolution and would be an important tool for schools.
“Parish and school communities will be guided in reviewing of local parental partnership and participation policies and procedures.”
Mr Hutton said the final document was the culmination of a working party which had discussed the policy focus at length before deciding it should reflect both partnership and participation.
