A PLETHORA of Prep (preparatory) Year facilities have been blessed and opened in Catholic schools across Brisbane archdiocese to accommodate the first influx of students expected in 2007.
St Edward the Confessor School at Daisy Hill celebrated the blessing and official opening of the Presentation Prep Building to honour the Presentation Sisters and their long association with the school.
At St Kieran’s School, Brighton, a large group gathered for the official opening of the school’s new Prep year classroom by Brisbane Catholic Education executive director David Hutton.
Recognising the school’s motto, “Strength through Caring”, Mr Hutton highlighted the importance the school placed on living faith through day-to-day relationships.
“It is in the little things that you do for other people that you build a strong caring community with Christ at the centre,” he said.
Other schools that have opened Prep facilities include St Joseph’s School, Bardon; St Joachim’s School, Holland Park and Sacred Heart School, Sandgate.
The State Government contributed more than $1.3 million towards the cost of new classrooms, library and administration facilities at St Joseph’s, Bardon.
At a ceremony involving most of the students, Mr Hutton said he recognised the significant contribution made by the school and parish communities in the new buildings and the growth of the school.
“I know that here at St Joseph’s you are living full lives and becoming the people that God intended you to be,” he said.
St Joachim’s, Holland Park, also celebrated the opening of refurbished administration facilities.
Brisbane South dean Fr Ray Kearney led the blessing during a morning that featured musical performances from many of the students.
Sacred Heart, Sandgate, also opened six refurbished classrooms for Years 4, 5, 6 and 7, finalising a project that was assisted by more than $300,000 in State Government funds and $40,000 from the Sacred Heart community.
