A HARD-earned victory was seized by Marymount College, Burleigh Waters, over Keebra Park State High School, Southport, for the Titans Cup rugby league grand final on June 20.
The final score line was a decisive 52-6.
The Marymount Makos scored an early try through team captain and hooker Cole Geyer but, due to some miscommunication, let Keebra back into the game with a try of their own.
The team cauterised and, through ball movements, accuracy and speed, went on to score 22 unanswered points to close out the first half 28-6.
“The very healthy and vocal crowd, comprised of staff, students, families and ex-students, witnessed a second half which was a continuation of the skill shown earlier, coupled with rock-solid defence, often on the try line,” a spokesperson said.
“The intensity remained high, as did the communication and discipline, as the boys in Blue ran in four unanswered converted tries.”
At the presentation ceremony captain Cole Geyer was named Open Cup Player of the Competition.
The Titans Cup was the last leg of undefeated preparation for the Confraternity Carnival, which runs through the first week of the July school holidays.
The Marymount Confraternity touring squad and their parents joined the staff for brunch at the Burleigh Bears the following weekend.
“This is always an exciting event where players and parents mingle and hear some stories from days gone by,” the spokesperson said.
The boys were entertained with stories from former 1980 team captain Mick Heery and vice-captain Phillip Wyper.
Even with some unfortunate injury trouble within the team, the Confraternity squad remained quietly confident heading into the 2018 carnival.
