A TEACHER from St Mary’s College, Maryborough, has been named Fraser Coast Secondary Teacher of the Year.
Glenys Nash, who is English and Literacy leader at St Mary’s College, was presented with the award that was an initiative of the Australian Council of Educational Leaders.
Sponsored by Fraser Coast Council, Fraser Coast Educational Alliance, USQ, the award is given in recognition of the endless effort and expertise teachers offered to local youth.
Principal Graham Meertens said it was fantastic to see such a distinguished award presented to Mrs Nash.
“With over 42 years of service to education in a number of capacities, this award highlights her commitment to education, students and their families,” he said
Mrs Nash was recognised as someone who was a passionate leader of English Curriculum and who regularly spent extra time with students to assist with assessment and classwork.
Her career included leading statewide and school-based literacy programs.
On an extracurricular level she has been a leader and advocate of Toastmasters, Rostrum, Lions Youth of The Year and debating competitions.
She is also a well-respected mentor for both young and experienced staff.
Mrs Nash said it was quite humbling to receive such a distinguished award.
“I am proud to work with such a caring and dedicated team at St Mary’s College and it’s been through the support of staff, students and families that allows teachers to go the extra mile,” she said.
Mr Meertens said Mrs Nash’s passion and vision for the future of education still ran strong and this was highlighted with her dedication to the classroom, curriculum planning and extra-curricular activities such as public speaking.
“We are very proud of Glenys and we are lucky to have such a wonderful community role model,” he said.
