Full of faith: Indigenous students “making history” at their Year 12 Graduation Ceremony at St Stephen’s Cathedral.
INDIGENOUS Year 12 students attending Brisbane Catholic high schools “made history” at their official graduation ceremony at St Stephen’s Cathedral on Thursday, October 17.
More than 170 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students celebrated their high school graduation surrounded by family, friends, teachers and members of Brisbane Catholic Education.
Cathedral dean Fr David Pascoe celebrated the Liturgy of the Word, and gave a blessing on all the graduands.
After the liturgy a graduate of St Mary’s Catholic College, South Burnett, Samantha Watson, mother Mary McMurtie and St Joseph’s Nudgee College teacher Yvonne O’Neill gave short reflections on the journey to graduation.
The 2013 graduate students came from 44 different Catholic high schools in Brisbane and were supported by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education.
