STUDENTS at Mater Dei School, Ashgrove West, lapped up the words of Libby Lenton when she paid them a special visit on Thursday 26 April.
Helping the students go for gold, the Olympic swimming star spoke openly to each year level about her career and the importance of enjoying what you do.
She saw every class from Prep to Year 3, and addressed Years 4 to 7 as a whole.
She particularly made a splash with the school’s senior champion swimmer, 12-year-old Caitlin Cronin.
“Libby showed us how hard work pays off, which was really motivating for me because I usually hate getting out of bed early for training,” Caitlin said. “It was awesome.”
But Lenton wasn’t only a role model for students interested in swimming.
Mater Dei’s sport coordinator, Mr Mark Robinson, said she impacted on everyone because of her enthusiastic and positive nature.
“Her message was that no matter what you do, if you keep trying you can achieve your goals,” Mr Robinson said.
“It was great having someone here of her calibre. We felt really privileged, especially since she is such a busy person.”
