FEDERAL Minister for Vocational and Technical Education Gary Hardgrave congratulated St Joseph’s Nudgee College, Boondall, for its success in school-based vocational education on September 15.
He was speaking at the 12th annual Building and Construction Training Excellence Awards run by Construction Training Queensland.
The awards were presented at a gala dinner at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre, with more than 500 guests representing the state’s building and construction industry.
A new category, Excellence Award for Schools, was presented to Nudgee College, which has 102 students completing Certificate I in Construction.
“St Joseph’s has been delivering building and construction training for students for the last 15 years and its success in school-based vocational education should be held up as an example for others,” Mr Hardgrave said.
Nudgee’s Year 12 class has been building cubby houses, which will be painted in bright colours.
Two or three will be given away to charity, either for their own use or as a fundraiser.
The others will be sold for $300 to recoup costs.
