WHEN it comes to achieving their best this year, students at St Anthony’s School, Alexandra Hills, are aiming for the stars.
The co-educational primary school, which offers students a blend of academic knowledge, recreational outlets, religious teaching and a vibrant liturgical life, has launched a new “5 Stars of Achievement” program at the first Prayer Parade of the year.
Acting assistant principal for religious education Renae Collier said the “5 Stars of Achievement”: Be respectful, Be inclusive, Be safe, Be a learner and Be honest, was a mix of ingredients that best helped the individual to develop their own potential.
She said the 5 Stars of Achievement would be the benchmarks students and staff would aspire to in both word and action.
“Every member of our school community will examine how they can follow the examples of St Anthony, St Joseph, Nano Nagle and St Mary of the Cross MacKillop to aspire to achieve these five goals,” she said.
“Our students have also been working with the 5 Stars with their teachers and developing their class covenant around them.
“In this current time, with its emphasis on success, may we help each other appreciate that ‘success’ in the eyes of God lies not so much in what we have, as it does in what we are.”
Acting principal Peter Griffin said the five goals – be respectful, be inclusive, be safe, be a learner and be honest – were something that was asked of every member of the school community to aspire to.
He said the process of identifying the goals had taken time.
“As part of the ‘Positive Behaviour for Learning Framework’, feedback was sought from the Parents’ and Friends’ Association throughout last year, as well as discussions with the staff and students,” he said.
“The positive language within the achievements will be used in the classroom and playground by all staff to assist the students to become focused, contributing members of the school.”
