MT Maria College officially opened its new “merged campus” in Mitchelton on August 31, completing the first three stages of the College Master Plan.
Since 2006, the college has operated on two campuses, in Enoggera and Mitchelton, under the one principal.
In 2009, parents, college staff and Brisbane Catholic Education representatives began plans to merge the two campuses onto the Mitchelton site, where the school originally opened in 1930.
Mt Maria College principal Mark Stower thanked all those who had made the dream possible, including staff, students and local families.
“This relatively small parental community shouldered the enormous undertaking without hesitation and pushed forward, never straying from their goal,” he said.
“Despite many hours of planning and meetings, and various setbacks, the Mt Maria community persevered to have their dream of having the school on the one site.”
Brisbane Archbishop Mark Coleridge was invited to formally bless the new merged campus.
BCE executive director Pam Betts officially opened the college’s three new buildings before an enthusiastic Mt Maria community.
