Fun times: Imogen Enright, Sophie Hall and Ava Bohan try their hand at chalk-drawing as Holy Family School celebrated Under-8s Day.

CHALK-drawing, kite-flying, construction, weaving, face-painting are all activities that made for a fun day for under-8s at Holy Family Primary School, Indooroopilly.

The under-8s had a ball as they rotated through the day’s activities that culminated with a disco in the school hall with the famous DJ Legoman – their principal John Robertson.

The annual Under-8s Week event celebrates the rich contribution under-8s make to schools and the wider community.

Year 1 teacher Judy Dale said the aim of the school’s celebration was to give the younger students a chance to shine.

She said the activities chosen allowed them to spark their imaginations, explore their creativity, socalise with their peers and extend their skills in a range of areas.

“It’s been a very exciting day,” she said.

“All grades from Prep to Year 2 have been mixed together to take on the activities and it’s worked really well.

“It’s been lots of fun not only for the students but the staff as well.”

Mrs Dale said Holy Family hosted Under-8s Day every year as part of its specialist program.

She said it was important for the students to participate in the activities provided each year and they usually looked forward to it.

Student Ava Bohan, who was walking around the school with her face painted like a cat, said she had a great time doing the different activities, especially the chalk-drawing.

“I really had a good time today,” she said.

“It was a lot of fun.

“We all went around different classrooms and did some fun activities, including chalk-drawing outside on the ground, which I enjoyed the most.

“I can’t wait until next year to do it again.”
