STUARTHOLME School’s yards looked a little different on February 22 as hundreds of dads gathered for a father-daughter breakfast at the school’s scenic Toowong location.
After consuming a hearty meal of bacon and eggs, fruit and yoghurt, the crowd heard a speech from ABC sports commentator and school parent Warren Boland.
Mr Boland, a father of four girls, spoke on the need for fathers to spend quality time with their daughters and take an interest in what they do.
One father’s comments after the event echoed the sentiment expressed by many on the day.
“As a new father it was a unique opportunity to get early connections with the school and importantly meet some of Kate’s friends (and their fathers) and share some initial views with other fathers,” he said.
“From my perspective, this was a great success.”
Stuartholme development director Graham Thomson said it was the school’s second annual Year 8 father-daughter breakfast, and that positive responses had prompted planning for similar events to be held in each year level.
“In the education of girls, most of the responsibility falls to the mothers, so this gets fathers involved as well,” he said.
“It also offers the chance for fathers to meet other fathers as well as the friends of their daughters.”
Judge Martin Daubney and Queensland Roar coach Frank Farina, also parents of Stuartholme girls, have been invited to speak at the upcoming father-daughter breakfasts.
