A PASSION for science led to Brigidine College student Miranda Fittock spending part of her summer holidays in “school”.
Miranda was one of 500 students from across Australia selected to attend the National Youth Science Forum in Perth in January.
The forum involved lectures in different science fields, forums, debates and career talks.
She said students also visited various laboratories and worked on communication and presentation skills.
“There were visits to the Science Centre, the Planetarium, University of Western Australia, and Curtin University,” Miranda said.
“I am grateful to have had this opportunity to meet like-minded students and would encourage other students to apply to be involved in science programs.”
Brigidine College science co-ordinator Maria Heenan said Miranda was extremely good at physics and displayed a high level of scientific enquiry.
“As part of the forum follow-up, she will speak on assembly and visit two other schools” Ms Heenan said.
Miranda, who is also the 2010 Brigidine College music captain playing cello in a number of ensembles, is keen to pursue a career in science after completing secondary studies.
