EAT, Play, Love was the theme chosen to launch Caritas’ Project Compassion this year at Brigidine College, Indooroopilly.

A college spokesperson said the annual Project Compassion appeal launch for Caritas Australia was always “a big deal” at Brigidine College and this year was no different.

“It was a love affair of sights, sounds, smells and tastes of delectable fundraising activities,” the spokesperson said about the launch which was held on St Valentine’s Day.

Caritas is the Catholic agency for international aid and development, and it supports disadvantaged people in poor communities in Australia and overseas to help themselves find a way out of poverty and oppression.

The college’s De Porres house co-ordinator Allison Power said: “We work in partnership with Caritas to make a difference.

“Caritas’ focus is on empowering local people to ‘open doors to the future’ by developing solutions to their particular problems,” she said.

“At Brigidine, we are effective at raising awareness and funds with having loads of fun.

“Today we have kick-started the Caritas appeal with over $1200 being raised in just one lunchtime.

“As an all-girls’ school we want to empower all women through Caritas to provide adequate education and healthcare.

“The building of strong local communities resonates with the Brigidine tradition of strength and gentleness.”
