WOMEN must continue to bring their gifts to education and society, Archbishop Mark Coleridge of Brisbane said at Brigidine Col-lege’s awards and acknowledgement night on October 25.

This was the first awards night Archbishop Coleridge has attended since his appointment.

During his opening speech, Archbishop Coleridge said he was “one of Delany’s mob”, referencing Bishop Daniel Delany, the founder of the Brigidine Sisters.

The Archbishop encouraged the all-girls’ Catholic college to look to their patron, St Brigid, as an example of courage and vision.

He said St Brigid was a “woman of courage and vision who challenged the structures of her time”.
“She was counter-cultural,” he said.

Archbishop Coleridge said he valued the education of women, and encouraged the students at Brigidine to “continue to inspire new generations of educators”.

He presented many awards to the students.

One Brigidine community member said Archbishop Coleridge “brought St Brigid alive”.
