MUSIC of all styles by more than 6000 young performers featured in the 15th annual Queensland Catholic Schools and Colleges Music Festival (QCMF) from August 19-21.
Most schools that entered the competition took home a medal from the three days of music in Villanova College’s newly opened Fr Hanrahan Theatre, Goold Hall and St James Church at Coorparoo.
Villanova started the music festival in 1991 and this year performers from 63 Catholic schools and colleges played and sang through 30 sections of choral, band and string ensemble presentations.
Bands and choirs from Catholic schools throughout Brisbane, as well as Cairns, Mackay, Emerald, Gladstone, Bundaberg, Maryborough, Toowoomba, Rockhampton and even New Zealand, travelled to the festival.
Queensland Catholic Education Commission executive director Joe McCorley and Brisbane Catholic Education executive director David Hutton applauded the role the festival plays in encouraging music education and performance in Catholic schools and colleges throughout Queensland.
