THE records just keep tumbling at the annual Queensland Catholic Schools’ and Colleges’ Music Festival (QCMF), hosted by Villanova College at Coorparoo.
The 2012 festival from August 16-20 attracted more than 12,000 students from 104 schools presenting 427 musical performances.
Those numbers were up on last year’s 11,300 student musicians from 95 schools.
QCMF is a non-competitive event, and gold, silver and bronze awards are presented to every ensemble that successfully participates, reflecting their individual skills.
An organiser said this year, schools came from as far away as Launceston, Tasmania; Ballarat, Victoria; and Thursday Island and Cairns, in Far North Queensland, to be a part of the action.
“All went home with gold, silver or bronze awards as well as a written evaluation and audio recording of their performance which included a voice-over commentary and encouragement from highly qualified adjudicators,” the spokesperson said.
Villanova College founded QCMF in 1991 and since then the festival has developed into the largest annual gathering of students from Queensland’s Catholic schools.
The event is supported by hundreds of volunteers each year and again St James’ Church and St James’ School, at Coorparoo, opened their doors to welcome visitors.
