ST Patrick’s Primary School, Nanango, is hoping a week-long celebration of its 100th anniversary will help bring past students out of the woodwork.
Principal Matthew Vine said centenary celebrations would kick off on November 12 with a Catherine McAuley Day.
“The day will include sharing the history of the Mercy heritage in Australia and some of the past history of our own school with students,” Mr Vine said.
He said activities would continue throughout the week with the wider community invited to the annual school concert on the Wednesday evening.
“On the Friday we will hold our regular school Mass at noon and then in the evening we’ve organised a torchlight procession through town,” he said.
Mr Vine said the procession would be a re-enactment of Nanango’s greeting of the first Mercy Sister.
“They met her when she arrived and then escorted her through town,” he said.
Mr Vine said St Patrick’s was hoping for a large roll-up of past students to the official proceedings on November 17 when memorabilia, including a history compiled for the 75th anniversary, would be on display and past students could reminisce about their own school days.
The Sisters of Mercy founded the school in April 1912.
Catherine McAuley founded the Sisters of Mercy in Ireland in 1831.
